Merengue
Merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic. It is a combination of two dances, the African and the French Minuet, from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is said that slaves witnessed their masters’ ballroom dances and adapted these into a less staid dance. The original Merengue was danced in circle rather than by couples.
Merengue is characterised by its hip action and walking steps.
Merengue is fun and easy to learn.
