Paso Doble

Paso Doble originated in southern Spain and is an evocation of a Spanish bullfight. The leader plays the part of the matador and the follower plays the part of the matador’s cape.

It is danced to music in 2/4 time and at around 60 bars per minute. A large proportion of Paso Doble songs are Espana Cani. This song has breaks which highlight the drama of the dance.

The dance is characterised by strong shaping and lines. It is dynamic, dramatic, energetic and reflective of the masculinity, pride and strength of the matador.
