Samba
Samba is of Brazilian origin. Ballroom Samba is, however, very different to traditional Brazilian Samba. Whereas traditional Samba is a festival dance, Samba danced in ballrooms was developed for its suitability as a partner dance. Samba is one of the five International Latin dances.
Ballroom Samba is danced to music in 2/4 time at around 50 bars per minute. The dance progresses round the room anticlockwise.
Samba is characterised by its strong bouncing action and its playfulness with different rhythms. It is a lively and fun dance.
